Cardboard Gangsters Trailer Shows Sex, Drugs and Money in Darndale

The official trailer has been released today for Cardboard Gangsters, a gritty film about Dublin’s ganglands by director Mark O’Connor.

Cardboard Gangsters, which stars John Connors (King of the Travellers, Love/Hate), Fionn Walton (Out of Here, What Richard Did) and Kierston Waring (Fishtank Warriors, Eastenders) tells the story of a group of wannabe gangsters attempting to gain control of Darndale’s drug trade, chasing the glorified lifestyle of money, power and sex.

Jay Connolly (Connors) is a part-time DJ and small-time drug dealer. When Jay’s welfare is cut off, he decides it’s time for he and his gang to enter the big leagues, attracting the attention of the local King Pin, which sets Jay down a violent and bloody path.

The film has already made the festival circuit around the world. Earlier this year, it picked up awards for Best Actor, Best Feature Film and Film of the Festival at the Manchester Film Festival. At last week’s Newport Beach Film Festival in California, it was awarded for Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking, with comparisons to the work of directors like Danny Boyle, Guy Ritchie, Mike Leigh and Ken Loach.

It’s a distinctly Dublin take on a crime movie, with Jay and friends chasing a highlife of mots and sessions, before it all inevitably goes wrong. See the Cardboard Gangsters trailer for yourself here:

Cardboard Gangsters will be released in Irish cinemas by Wildcard Distribution on June 16th.
