Withnail and I and You at the Sugar Club?
Beloved and endlessly quoted, director Bruce Robinson’s 1987 comedy, loosely based on his own escapades in the 1960s, follows two out-of-work actors — the anxious, luckless Marwood (Paul McGann) and his acerbic, alcoholic friend, Withnail (Richard E. Grant). They spend their days drifting between their squalid flat, the unemployment office and of course, the pub. When they take a holiday “by mistake” at the country house of Withnail’s flamboyantly gay uncle, Monty (Richard Griffiths), they encounter the unpleasant side of the English countryside: tedium, terrifying locals and torrential rain.
Perfect for anyone who needs a little courage and a bitter sense of humour to get through the sometimes trying month of December. Doors for this special screening at the Sugar Club are at 8.30pm, with the film itself showing at 9.15. Tickets cost €10 (price includes popcorn) and are available now.
