Sass Mouth Dames celebrates woman’s pictures from 1929-1959, a genre in classic Hollywood which regarded women’s stories as important and meaningful. Megan McGurk regularly hosts both the Sass Mouth Dames podcast and the Sass Mouth Dames Film Club, discussing, distributing and celebrating prominent fixtures in female films from the Golden Age of Hollywood. The latest series of Sass Mouth Dames will be kicking off screenings in Dublin in March 2020.

The Smithfield cinema have today announced the programme for their annual Naughty or Nice season, a selection of beloved Christmas classics and carefully curated deep-cuts. Every year the selection tends to bring out the naughty and nice in Dublin’s film fans as they cross in-laws and distant relatives off their gift lists in order to fit in a few more tickets to treat themselves with and Christmas 2019 is set to be no different. The usual lineup are all there with a few new, intriguing choices thrown in, it’s going to be a busy few weeks at the Light House from November 29th to December 31st.

Every year the Irish Film Institute explores a diverse range of science fiction in its Dark Skies programme. In June 2019, Dark Skies returns to the IFI, and this year the festival will explore how the sci-fi genre has responded to our world’s ambiguous relationship to the machines we have created with the theme “Man Vs Machine”.

Sometimes you go to the Light House Cinema for well-curated programmes and the chance to celebrate the classics all over again . Sometimes you go for the great film festivals hosted there, showcasing diverse international cinema. And sometimes you go cos you wanna see big ol’ sharks chomp down on some fools on the big screen. If that third group includes you, you’ll be swarming to the Smithfield cinema next week like a shark that’s smelled blood in the water.
