Playback X DIFF brings homegrown hip hop and R&B to your screen

A dynamic programme of contemporary Irish hip hop and R&B musicals is set to be one of the more enticing elements of this year’s Dublin International Film Festival. Playback x DIFF is a collabaration between musical and film talent, as some of Ireland’s biggest names in the music scene engage creatively with rising and risen directing talent, producing that mutual staple of behind the camera skill and alternative expression in rap and R&B: the music video.

Denise Chaila, James Vincent McMorrow, Gemma Dunleavy and more will be featured in Playback. Curated for VMDIFF 2021 by producer Michael Donnelly V and musician Erica Cody, Playback combines 12 music videos with newly recorded interviews with the featured directors and musical artists. Showcasing the creative energies of those involved, this project aims to tap into the process, style and connections involved in the creative process.

Playback X DIFF is set to premiere at this year’s festival on Sunday, 7th March at 7pm. It will then travel to 18 venues around the world, putting some of Ireland’s best and brightest on the international stage.

VMDIFF have announced the full line up for Playback, with some of Ireland’s best new music talents involved.
