New outdoor rooftop cinema on its way to Dublin
A new outdoor cinema experience will be on its way to Dublin after Dublin City Council approved plans to alter the top floor of a multi-storey car park in the centre of the fair city of film and turn it into an rooftop cinema and restaurant.
The Irish Times has reported that Dublin’s first rooftop cinema is planned to open on the upper floors of Trinity Street Car Park.
Plans were recently approved to transform the top level of the car park off Dame Street into a cinema and restaurant, while the fifth floor will become home to a gallery and exhibition area. The project is headed by chef Neil Davidson whose company, Table 21 restaurants, has secured permission for a change of use of the top floors of the multi-storey car park for a max of three years.
The current plan is for the open air cinema to operate on Sundays and early week nights. Previous plans for rooftop cinemas in Dublin have never really gotten off the ground, but with an increased appetite for outdoor activity and planning permission in the bag, it seems that we may well be seeing screenings from high in the city’s skyline soon.
