Kerry International Film Festival introduces All Abilities category

The Kerry International Film Festival have announced a new submission category for their festival, to develop a wider range of stories and experiences. The ‘All Abilities’ category now open for the 2021 edition of the festival aims to promote awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories and the artistic expressions of people with, or from people of, different abilities and disabilities.

Taking place this October, KIFF 2021 has introduced this new category for filmmakers as part of its ethos to bring new cultural experiences through film to a Kerry audience. The Kerry International Film Festival’s goal since its establishment in 1999 has been to create new and diverse film experiences, create a hub of film creativity and appreciation by champion the work of local and international filmmakers, both established and emerging.

Kerry International Film Festival takes place this year from Oct 14 – 17th. While organisers hope to facilitate physical gatherings once again in Killarney, audience safety and comfort will continue to shape this year’s festival and after going all online last year, KIFF will be exploring their delivery further, which should continue to make their festival accessible and inclusive, as well as open to an international audience.

To encourage further development of inclusive and diverse filmmaking with representation for people with disabilities, KIFF have reduced the fee to submit work to this year’s festival to €9. Submissions are open now via FilmFreeway, with the regular deadline coming on August 1st.
