Hollywood Babylon 35mm Film Season will be showing classics in style

Tomorrow evening sees the return of one of Dublin’s top purveyors of cult classic cinema. Hollywood Babylon are back and kicking off eight months of crowd-pleasers at the Light House Cinema, starting with a true grindhouse great; The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Hollywood Babylon Dublin’s Midnight Movie Film Club have spent years dedicated to what they would refer to as ‘disreputable’ movies. Roughly speaking – movies best seen late at night, in great company and with beer (or a bespoke, appropriately monikered cocktail). Their Midnight Movie Film Club features a pre-show of the weirdest clips and trailers from the depths of your VHS nightmares. It’s not always a night Video Nasties though – this season of Hollywood Babylon films is certainly kicking off in that frame of mind, with a showing of Tobe Hooper’s infamous horror The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – but they have a long-running line up of classic running for the rest of the year and well int0 2019, with faves like Top Gun and Legally Blonde along for the ride. All the films will be screened in 35mm, recreating that classic movie-going experience.

For those still singing along to her unique take on Fernando from Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Hollywood Babylon have a Cher-themed treat just for you. Next Spring they’ll be hosting a Cher Double-Bill, with Moonstruck and Mermaids showing back to back on April 13th. We can’t wait for the themed cocktails that night will bring up and we just wish we could turn forward time (if we could find a way). Keep an eye out as well for Hollywood Babylon’s second annual Midwinter Beach Party, where this year on February 16th they’ll be showing Peak Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse. If the 2018 edition is anything to go by, it’ll be the perfect antidote to the absolutely freezing cold…
