Films streaming in to the Stoneybatter Festival


A series of cultural events in the heart of the city will be coming to screens this weekend Friday 18th June to Sunday 20th as the Stoneybatter Festival arrives online. They’ll be offering programme of both virtual and outdoor activities involving arts, interviews, competitions and more, and the Stoneybatter Film Festival on all through the weekend should be of particular interest to Irish film fans.


The works of local filmmakers will be made available through every day of the festival streaming on the Stoneybatter Festival website. Curated by Emmet Kelly from Burning House Productions, the festival of shorts will offer a selection of rising talents, including writers, directors and actors who work professionally in the Irish and UK film industry.

The programme for this all online film festival has been divided into four sections and includes works by Maureen O’Connell, Emmet Kelly, Kate Dolan and more. Check out the full list of films showing below.

PROGRAM 1

Casual

Hum

Tim seeks refuge in an empty gallery. He prays for silence and solitude. His prayers are ignored, as gallery regular Cecil takes him on an abstract journey of interaction and appreciation.

Lost Memories

Sean races against the clock to his mother’s deathbed in possession of his mother’s dying wish while dealing with inter-family politics over the phone.

Homemade
Directed By Luke Mcmanus
Pensioner Tommy Fogarty wants to impress his new lady friend by baking a cake but finds a gang of feral teenage girls have other ideas.

Pigeons Of Discontent
Directed By Paddy Cahill
In the otherwise tranquil Dublin neighbourhood of Stoneybatter, one local quirk has divided neighbours. The Pigeons. This short documentary looks at the local Pigeon population, while we hear some impassioned opinions from some of the neighbourhoods residents.

The Stoneybatter Festival begins at 8pm this evening Friday 18th July, with a special opening message from President Michael D. Higgins, with the film’s available to stream all weekend thereafter. A short film competition has also been available to rising talents under the age of 18, with prizes on offer from Brown Bag Films. All in all it promises to be a fun weekend for film fans in the area.
