Legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog is set for a visit to the IFI for a special conversation taking place on Tuesday, 22nd April 2025 from 10:30 to 12:30. Tickets are free and flying out fast for this event, held by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland as part of Section 481 Skills Development Screen Talks.
Herzog is currently in the fair city of film working on his next film project, the delightfully awfully named Bucking Fastard. Starring real-life sisters Rooney Mara and Kate Mara, the film is based on the true story of inseparable twin sisters Joan and Jean who become obsessed with their next-door neighbour. The pair and the director have been seen across the city since filming began at the start of the month, and now Herzog will be seen in the IFI, sharing info and insights from his long-running career.
Over six decades, Herzog has produced, written, and directed more than sixty feature- and documentary films, such as Aguirre, The Wrath of God (1972), Nosferatu (1978), Fitzcarraldo (1982), Lessons of Darkness (1992), Little Dieter Needs to Fly (1997), My Best Friend (1999), Invincible (2000), Grizzly Man (2005), Encounters at the End of the World (2007), Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2010). He has also published more than a dozen books of prose, and directed as many operas. He currently lives in Munich and Los Angeles.
Werner Herzog will be in conversation with Ireland’s own Lorcan Finnegan. Lorcan’s debut feature film Without Name premiered in the Vanguard section at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2016. His follow up Vivarium, a surrealist fantasy horror starring Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg premiered in the Critics’ Week section at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. Subsequently, he directed the psychological thriller Nocebo (2022) starring Eva Green and Mark Strong. Most recently, he returned to Cannes in 2024 in the Midnight Screenings section with The Surfer starring Nicholas Cage. The Surfer is scheduled for theatrical release in May 2025.
This talk is open to all screen industry professionals, with priority given to emerging writers, directors and producers, and aims to give participants firsthand insight into the knowledge, expertise and working processes of a world-renowned filmmaker. Places are very limited and are available on a first come, first served basis. You can get tickets free HERE (for now!)
