Cult classics in Inchicore with Brian Lloyd

A new film club is coming to Dublin 8 to screen some cult classics in the heart of Inchicore. Film critic Brian Lloyd will be picking out pictures for the Rascals Movie Club and their first movie meeting takes place next week on Wednesday February 19th.

Rascals Brewery and Pizza Restaurant on the Tyrconnell Road will be host to a screening of the 70s crime classic The Taking of Pelham 123. In New York, armed men hijack a subway car and demand a ransom for the passengers. Even if it’s paid, how could they get away?

Adapted from the novel of the same name, the subway thriller endures today as one of the most beloved films of its decade, with Walter Matthau and Robert Shaw sensational stars of the kind they just don’t let lead movies anymore. There was never a remake don’t ask about a remake.

It’s the latest Movie Club to pop up across the fair city of film, and like the offerings at the Outhouse, it’s aim is to bring banger movies at affordable prices (the better to keep them in ordering pints and pizza). Tickets for this first screening are available now and they’re €4 (plus Eventbrite fees). Proceedings will be kicking off at 7pm on Wednesday, and Brian, usually seen reviewing the latest releases on Ireland AM, will be on hand to intro the movie.

There are set to be more cult classics picked out by Brian in the months ahead, so stay tuned for more of the strange, the unusual and the sick (all definitions) of cinema on the southside soon.
