The Dublin International Comedy Film Festival returns across the city this November

Stand-ups, Breathnach’s and more, oh my. The 5th edition of the Dublin International Comedy Film Festival is on the way this winter.

Since 2020 the DICFF has offered some much needed winter levity, showing films and live stand-up alike alongside Q&A’s, a live script comedy competition, networking events and awards.

The Dublin International Comedy Film Festival hits the Lighthouse Cinema once more on the 27th and 28th of November, then heads to the Complex for the first time. This year the festival will share its programme across the fair city of film, between the Light House, the Complex in Smithfield, Dublin 7, the IFI, the Hendrick Hotel and Tailors Hall, D8.

This year the festival has a line up of comedy acts with Bernard O’Shea, Kevin McGahern and Joe Rooney. Joe Rooney will also judge the inaugural DICFF Stand-Up Competition that DICFF have been running throughout the year, culminating in the finals on 28th & 30th November at the Hendrick Hotel & the Complex, respectively.

There will be a special showing of Paddy Breathnach’s film I Went Down, starring Brendan Gleeson, aon the 27th November at the Light House with a Q&A with the filmmaker, Paddy Breathnach afterwards. In the 90s crime comedy, a working-class man is released from prison, and soon rescues his best friend from mutilation at the hands of mobsters. The local crime boss decides that the man has to pay for his friend’s gambling debts, and tasks him with locating and retrieving a missing associate of the crime boss in Cork.

Over 60 funny films from around the world are set to screen, including If That Mockingbird Don’t Sing, by American 20 year old Sadie Bones. A film about love, choices, and the challenges of teenage pregnancy. When17-year-old Sydnie discovers she is pregnant after being dumped, she sees an opportunity to get her ex back and give her life direction, she decides to keep the baby. She soon realizes that this won’t be the quick fix she had hoped for and finds herself caught in a complicated love triangle and totally lost. The film can be seen on Thursday 28th November at 8pm alongside comedy shorts.

Counting In is a feature mockumentary exploring the life and current whereabouts of rock-n-roll’s mysterious legend Steve Staccato, the world’s greatest at counting to four before any song begins. It will screen at the Light House on Saturday 30th November from 3pm in Screen 3.

Alongside Q&A’s with casting director, Shauna Griffth, with Head of Newscheck Comedy, David Atkinson and celebrated director, Neasa Hardiman, sets by Bernard O’Shea and Kevin Gahern will be among the events. The Live Script Reading Competition will kick off on Friday 29th November at the Complex, D7 and continue on into Saturday 30th November, with 7 teams performing a reading of each competing script. There will be an audience vote on the best live script reading and a judge’s vote from filmmaker Gemma Creagh.
