KAT3 DOLAN to join M3GAN Universe with SOULM8TE

Two queens of horror are coming together to maximise their joint slay.

Ireland’s own Kate Dolan will be directing a new film in the M3GAN series, as Atomic Monster and Blumhouse begin work on SOULM8TE, a spin-off set in the same world as the para-sociopathic doll.

As reported by Deadline, the companies are aiming for an early 2026 release for the film, which promises to be a 90s style erotic thriller, with a new technological twist. In SOULM8TE, a man acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.

You Are Not My Mother director Dolan, who rewrote an original draft of the film’s script by Rafael Jordan (story by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu and Jordan), took to social media last night to confirm that she will be directing the film.

The blend of horror and hilarity found in M3GAN is a good fit going forward for Dolan, whose short Catcalls used pointed commentary to gory effect in a way that sounds similar to SOULM8TE. This follows the news that the same companies Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are pairing with New Line to produce the next film by fellow horror alum Lee Cronin. Details of Cronin’s follow up to Evil Dead Rise remain a closely guarded secret, but the projcect, also set for a 2026 release, will also be produced by Cronin through his label Doppelgängers, launched last year.

We’re in a Golden Age of Irish horror right now, and with Dolan helming her first Hollywood production, it’s a success story that looks set to continue for some time yet. We look forward to seeing more of SOULM8TE in the coming years.
