Apocalypse Clown – not the name your ex is under on your phone, but the upcoming comedy that’s sold out its premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh – has a release date across the UK and Ireland this autumn.
Vertigo Releasing and Wildcard Distribution have announced that George Kane’s end of the world clown comedy will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 1st September and a new trailer for the film is out now.
The news comes ahead of the film’s sold-out world premiere screening at the Galway Film Fleadh and its North American premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Quebec this month.
The end of the world clown comedy tells the tale of a troupe of failed clowns and an ambitious reporter who embark on a chaotic adventure of self-discovery after a mysterious solar event plunges the world into anarchy. The troupe see the collapse of civilisation of perhaps the best opportunity possible to restore clowning as a legitimate form of entertainment.
Director George Kane speaking about the release stated his aim to bring broad comedy back to Irish screens.
“As a fan, I miss the days of the out-there, joke-packed big-screen comedy and Apocalypse Clown is ruthlessly devoted to making audiences laugh. It’s blessed with a wonderful cast who fully committed to bringing these loveably twisted weirdos to life, and it demands to be seen with a crowd. It’s unhinged, unpredictable and if it’s not the greatest dystopian Irish clown comedy ever made, it’s definitely Top 5…”.
