Irish eyes on the 2023 IFTA Nominations

This morning saw the announcement of the nominees for the 2023 edition of the Irish Film and Television Awards. Across 28 categories in Film & Drama, the best in front of and behind the scenes in the Irish industry and the work that they have made has been highlighted for another year.

It’s a special edition of the IFTA awards this spring. The upcoming 20th Anniversary IFTA Awards Ceremony will be hosted by Deirdre O’Kane and is set to take place on Sunday, May 7th at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre. TheAnniversary Ceremony will see the Irish Academy welcome guests from all around the world for an industry get together in Dublin, with RTÉ broadcasting the ceremony as well as highlights from the IFTA Red Carpet.

The Banshees of Inisherin inevitably leads the way across the film categories, with Bad Sisters, Smother, The Dry and more showing the rising state of Irish drama. Established Irish acts like Colin Farrell and Liam Neeson sit in the acting categories alongside new stars like Éanna Hardwicke, Zara Devlin and Kelly Gough.

The short film categories are stacked. Oscar hopeful An Irish Goodbye sits alongside highlights of the last year, including Lamb, Wednesday’s Child, You’re Not Homeall hits at this year’s DIFF – and Tara O’Callaghan’s Call Me Mommy, an eye-catching and insightful doc. Rioghnach Ní Ghrioghair’s Don’t Go Where I Can’t Find You , a hauntingly realised horror, sits alongside them in a field full of outstanding films.
