IFI Documentary Festival 2020 bringing the best in docs to the big screen and your home

The IFI Documentary Festival is a staple of the programming of the Irish Film Institute, key to their remit to exhibit, preserve and educate. The full programme for the 2020 festival is now here as the IFI blends a mix of live screenings and programming on IFI@Home to deliver this year’s selection of interesting, engaging and informative documentaries.

From this September 21st-27th, the Irish Film Institute will celebrating the best in documentary filmmaking from Ireland and around the world. With fourteen films screening at the IFI and plenty available to stream on demand on the IFI@Home platform, the Institute has curated an experience for this year’s festival to cater to all kinds of attendees.

The Documentary Festival 2020 will begin with a film by Ron Howard, about the devastating forest fires in the United States, Rebuilding Paradise.

On the morning of November 8th, 2018, a devastating firestorm engulfed the picturesque city of Paradise, California. By the time the fire was extinguished, it had killed 85 people, displaced tens of thousands of residents and destroyed 95% of structures. It was the deadliest US fire in more than 100 years, and the worst in California’s history. Rebuilding Paradise, from Oscar-winning director Ron Howard, is a moving story of resilience in the face of tragedy, as a community ravaged by disaster comes together to recover what was lost and begin the seemingly impossible task of starting again, even as their hope and spirit are challenged by continued adversity: relocations, financial crises, government obstacles, water poisoning, grief and PTSD.
