“God made food; the devil the cooks.”
– James Joyce, Ulysses
Every June 16th for the last couple of years, the Light House has organised Goldblum’s Day; the Smithefield cinema’s own version of Bloomsday and ode to everyone’s favourite stammery, spindly thespian, Jeff Goldblum. And while it hasn’t quite reached the level of fame where tourists flock to the capital dressed in their cos-blums, their chests bared in displays of Ian Malcomry, it has already come to the attention of the man himself, who as you would imagine, took it in stride. Goldblum’s Day returns to the Light House this Sunday June 16th, with a trio of crowd-pleasing blockbusters to enjoy while summer is well in blum.
Proceedings kick off at 2pm with a showing of Thor: Ragnarok, in which Goldblum played the hedonistic, meme-friendly dictator the Grandmaster. That film will be followed at 5pm with a screening of Jurassic Park, which introduced us to the most beloved mathematician in cinema history, Dr Ian Malcolm. Ian had an action hero glow up in that film’s sequel The Lost World, returning to the Park to rescue Julianne Moore (who can blame him) and to test how much those gymnastic lessons he’s been paying for his daughter are worth (every penny it turns out). The Lost World will round off Goldblum’s Day 2019 from 8pm.
Tickets for this event are available now and we have no doubt the day will be celebrated in style with Goldblum-related cocktails, decorations and more, just as Jeff would want.
