The New Music is a new Irish film about a classical pianist with Young Onset Parkinson’s disease who joins a Dublin punk band. It aims to shine a light on this rare and little known condition which affects those under 50 years of age.
The film has the full support of Young Parkinson’s Ireland and is currently raising funds to complete post production for its completion deadline in March. As the film closes in on its funding goals, they have announced a table quiz night in an effort to secure the final funds needed for release.
Filmmaker Chiara Viale worked closely with Young Parkinson’s Ireland throughout the pre-production process, in order to ensure a considered and accurate portrayal of how Parkinson’s can effect young people. It is believed that there may be as many as five hundred unaccounted for afflicted with Young Onset Parkinson’s in Ireland. The film tells the story of Adrian, a young classical musician with extraordinary talent, who discovers he has the condition, a rare form of Parkinson’s Disease affecting sufferers under fifty. Adrian (played by Dublin actor Cilléin Mc Evoy) joins a punk band as a keyboard player and rediscovers his life through music and love.
The film is organising a fundraising pub quiz on Wednesday 6th March at The Grand Social in Dublin from 7.30pm. Those interested can test music, film and general knowledge while supporting the film’s cause with a quiz hosted by Colin McKeown from Quizhost Ireland and Emma Fagan from “Fillum”, an agency which helps promote indie film in Ireland.
There will be a number of prizes up for grabs on the night of particular interest to film fans, sponsored by brands including Film Equipment Hire Ireland, Women in Film&Television Ireland, The Lighthouse Cinema, Act The Maggot and more. The filmmakers will also be providing some behind-the-scenes extras, including exclusive film prints and posters, as well as cinema tickets and other surprises to come, eager to ensure that no one will leave the evening empty-handed.
Spaces at the quiz will cost €30 for a team of 4 and you can secure your place by booking on EventBrite here.
For those who are unable make it on the night but are still interested in donating to the film now-you can do so on the film’s GoFundMe page.
