The Fantastic Flix programme for the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival 2019 is looking really fantastic – a diverse selection that celebrates films for young people from all over the world. Among the highlights of the programme announced so far is the attendance of director Joe Cornish for a screening of his latest film The Kid Who Would Be King, but a simple meet-and-greet isn’t all the director has in store when he arrives to Dublin for the 13th of February.
To celebrate the attendance of Joe Cornish for the Irish debut of his new film, kid-friendly swords and sorcery cinema The Kid Who Would Be King, the Dublin International Film Festival is set to host a special workshop especially for young people who are interested in learning more about the craft of filmmaking.
Aimed specifically at those with an interest in a career in film, writer and director Cornish will be discussing his storied career starting from The Adam and Joe Show to his cult sci-fi flick Attack the Block starring John Boyega, to his writing work on Hollywood films such as The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn and Ant-Man and more. With his cult status, interesting stories and elusive appeal since his last directorial effort, interest in this workshop is sure to be high, so those interested can begin to register for tickets from VMDIFF now here.
The workshop is set to take place at the Light House Cinema at 4.30pm on the 13th of February, the afternoon after the screening of his new film at the Smithfield cinema, which will be taking place at 11.30am, tickets for this Fantastic Flix screening are available now. Set in cmodern times, it tells the story of Alex, a boy who thinks he’s ordinary and spends his days battling school bullies. His life is transformed when he stumbles upon the sword in the stone of Excalibur. Joining forces with the wizard Merlin, he’s tasked with taking on an evil enchantress – and discovers a destiny he could never have dreamed of.
