Normally we at Film In Dublin wouldn’t be on board with breaking out the fairy lights and tinsel for Christmas while the Halloween pumpkins haven’t even rotted yet. But for the Light House Cinema’s Naughty or Nice season, we’re always willing to make an exception. An annual season of seasonal classics featuring all your comforting Christmas favourites, this festive programming is a Christmas tradition for cinema-goers in the fair city of film, a celebration for Light House regulars to mark the end of another great year of movies. This afternoon, the Light House announced the schedule for Naughty or Nice 2018 from Dec 1st to 23rd, and they’ve been good to us as ever.
With 22 screenings and events scheduled for Naughty of Nice 2018 the season is looking merrier than ever. It all kicks off on December 1st with a Tinseltastic (their words not ours!) Christmas Party, with festive fun in every corner of the Smithfield cinema. In years gone by, the cinema’s Die Hard parties have proven extremely popular, but this year things are being kicked up considerably, with the Christmas Party including screenings of Love Actually and Gremlins and singalongs of The Muppet Christmas Carol and Frozen, leaving viewers spoiled for choice. Tickets for Singalong sessions in particular are sure to be snapped up fast, with – what’s this? – several musical sessions of The Nightmare Before Christmas also planned, all an exciting collaboration with Sing Along Social.
Action movie lovers can enjoy a double-bill of Die Hard and Die Hard 2, while rom-com aficionados can check out Sandra Bullock’s While You Were Sleeping and consider where it falls on the naughty/nice spectrum. The cultured viewer can get in on the fun thanks to scheduled screenings of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker ballet , to be streamed live on the big screen, while Simon Callow and director-designer Tom Cairns’s one-man theatrical production of A Christmas Carol will melt even the bah-est of humbugs like a snowflake on the tongue. There’s all that and so much more and we are very excited.
