Which to watch at the Season of the Witch

Halloween is quickly coming around the corner, which for film fans who like their movies to have a little horror in them through the month of October, means heading to Dublin cinemas to see what spooky selections they have to offer. Today we preview the Light House Cinema’s Season of the Witch, coming to the Smithfield cinema from the 22nd October through to the 29th. The creative coven over at the Light House have been brewing a fine collection of witchy films that we leave you cackling with delight.

Though the films showing during Season of the Witch have a unifying theme, offering a bewitching season of films exploring Hollywood’s long-held fascination with the Dark Arts, they’re covering an impressive range of genres, audiences and ideas. From family favourites like Hocus Pocus and The Wizard of Oz to the satire of George Miller’s star-studded The Witches of Eastwick to modern, acclaimed cult fare like The Witch and The Love Witch, there’s the cinema’s programme will get you, and your little dog too (note: no dog-friendly screenings this time). And hey if witchy stuff isn’t your thing, the Light House still has plenty of horror fare to offer, check out their Halloween Treats, screenings of classics like Halloween and Beetlejuice and upcoming, eagerly anticipated offerings including Mandy and Luca Guadagnino’s remake of Suspiria. Unfortunately you’re probably cursed now for not liking witch stuff, but at least one way or another you’ll be watching some great movies this Halloween.

Check out the full schedule for Season of the Witch below. Though it does not include Season of the Witch, the latter-day Nicholas Cage classic (and our own Robert Sheehan, hoping you’d forgotten already), they’ve got plenty of movies to make your Halloween wicked and witchy.
