The unusually-named but culturally relevant Bleeding Pig Cultural Festival returns for ten days of fun in Donabate this September, which also means that the Bleeding Pig Film Festival is back, bringing it’s own 3 day festival-within-a-festival of short films, with the lineup announced today.
The Bleeding Pig, named for a rock formation along the cliff walk between Portrane and Corballis with a distinctively piggy shape and colour, is a long-running cultural festival in the Donabata/Portrane areas. Initially set up to bring together different cultural groups on the peninsula of Donabate and Portrane together to enable them to reach a wider audience within their community, their success has enabled the festival to branch out further afield than Dublin, including the now annual festival of short films. This year the Film Festival will boast shorts from Spain, the Netherlands and America, as well as some by Irish filmmakers. This year the Bleeding Pig will also be showing a feature film on the closing night, still to be announced.
It’s going to be three nights of quality short films from Ireland and abroad, taking place from Monday 10th-Wednesday 12th of September. Each night’s selection will be starting from 7.30 pm and the venue will be Keelings Pub in Donabate. Admission is free for the festival, leaving more money for you to get your pints in, if you’re that way inclined. A number of the shorts showing through the 3 days carry the F-rating, the rating denoting a film written or directed by a woman, also used by the Irish Film Institute among others.

The festival is supported this year by film fans and logo designers Wiley Design and Fingal County Council.
