This summer marks the ten year anniversary of one of the most influential blockbusters of all time, The Dark Knight. You may have seen a thinkpiece or two on your timelines over the last few days contemplating the legacy of the seminal entry to Christopher Nolan’s trilogy of billionaire bat versus systemic crime, but if you’d like to see the film on the screen and make up your mind for yourself how well it holds up, the Light House Cinema has you covered.
This summer, the Light House are celebrating the beloved sequel to Batman Begins with screenings from Friday 27th July until Thursday 2nd August. Even with fans eagerly anticipating a follow-up to Nolan’s successful reboot of the franchise, the added attention following the tragic death of Heath Ledger a few months prior, and the fact that it’s a Batman a movie and people really like Batman, The Dark Knight was an unprecedented success, bringing in a billion at the box office. Fan adoration has been intense ever since and the film’s multiple Oscar nominations (including a posthumous win for Ledger for Best Supporting Actor) legitimised the superhero genre in the eyes of many.
