It was a happy Pride all round this weekend in the fair city of film, as the first announcements started coming in for GAZE 2018. Ireland’s top LGBT film festival were present in Smithfield at the weekend, giving Pride revellers a sneak peak at their programme for this year. They’ll be back in Smithfield for the August Bank Holiday weekend, and have now made the first of their announcements for screenings and advance ticket sales ahead of the GAZE 2018 official programme launch on July 10th.
Taking place at the Light House Cinema from August 2nd – 8th, the early announcments from GAZE 2018 are a pair of star-studded heavy-hitters. First up is Disobedience, Chilean filmmaker Sebastián Lelio’s follow-up to the Oscar-winner for Best Foreign Language Film, A Fantastic Woman. Based on the book by Naomi Alderman, with a screenplay by Sebastián Lelio and Rebecca Lenkiewicz the film stars Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams and follows a woman (Weisz) as she returns to the community that shunned her decades earlier for an attraction to her childhood friend (McAdams). Once reunited, their passions reignite as they explore the boundaries of faith and sexuality. Disobedience will be screening at GAZE 2018 on Friday August 3rd, 8.30pm and tickets are available now from the Light House here.
The second announcement will see an eagerly-anticipated film screen not just here in Dublin but in Galway as well, as the Light House’s sister cinema the Pálás gets in on the GAZE action. The film in question will be The Miseducation of Cameron Post. Set in 1990s Montana, the film deals with the experience of a teenage girl, forced into a gay conversion therapy centre. Starring Chloë Grace Moretz in a role that quietly reflects the observations of a girl caught in a time and place which demands we fix and exorcise desires and identities that needed ‘curing’. Cameron Post will be showing at the Light House on Saturday, August 4th at 8.30pm and tickets are available here. For our Galway readers (they surely exist), tickets for the Pálás screening, same date, same time, are availble now here.

It’s a can’t-miss festival every year and we’re excited to see everything that GAZE 2018 has to offer. The full programme and line-up will be announced on July 10th, so expect to hear more from us about the festival very soon. Festival organisers are promising a programme that’s set to be one of most inclusive & broadest yet with the festival starting to extend its festival family to marking the beginning of its next 25 year chapter.
