Our Countdown to this year’s Audi Dublin International Film Festival continues today, as we look at Careers in Film Day. One of several insightful events taking place during the festival, Careers in Film Day offers the opportunity for young people to learn from industry professionals about what it takes to forge out a career in film.
From how to get cast, to working behind the camera to tinkering in the effects booth, a wide range of jobs will be covered during Careers in Film Day, a one-day programme of events aimed at second-level students who are interested in working as part of the film industry. Irish film talent will be on hand alongside academic staff and students currently involved in Irish college courses, offering guidance and advice.
Careers in Film Day is a joint initiative between ADIFF and the Irish Film Institute, and will be taking place at the IFI on Thursday, 1st March, from 10.30am – 3.30pm. Tickets for this event, available now from the IFI, cost €5 per student and per teacher attending, and be advised, they’re going fast.
A large number of the Irish film industry’s most talented artists will be in attendance on the day including Darragh O’Connell of Brown Bag Films (Give Up Yer Aul Sins, Doc McStuffins), documentary filmmaker Ken Wardrop (His & Hers), directors Rob Burke and Ronan Burke (Damo and Ivor: The Movie), cinematographer Kate McCullough (The Farthest, Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope), VFX artist Ciaran Crowley (The Dark Knight, Inception), production designer Tom Conroy (Vikings, The Tudors), casting agent Louise Kiely (Frank, What Richard Did), animation studio Pink Kong, sound editor Steven Fanagan (Room, Game of Thrones) and many more. If you’re a second-level student interested in a career in film, Careers in Film Day is an opportunity not to be missed.
