With 2017 drawing to a close, what else would Dublin film fans be doing but looking ahead to the film festivals to come in 2018? Of course the Dublin International Film Festival is massive and exciting and we love the Dublin Feminist Film Festival, not to mention the intriguing Smartphone Film Festival, beginning in January. But one we’re particularly looking forward to in the New Year is the second edition of the Dublin Sci-Fi Film Festival, who have some exciting news for sci-fi lovers in the fair city of film we look forward to the new year with great excitement and anticipation as we gear up for our next edition of Dublin Sci-Fi Film Festival.
The Festival will return once more to Smithfield where it will take place over 4 days, from the 26th to 29th April. Having launched on a shoe string in 2017, with the help of a number of fundraising events and campaigns, Dublin Sci-Fi Film Festival is delighted to announce that this year it will receive additional funding from The Arts Council of Ireland.
Festival Director’s Statement:
“We are positively thrilled to have The Arts Council behind us in our quest to bring great Science Fiction and Fantastic Film to the capital. This means that we can now really begin to follow our hearts and develop the programme towards what we hope will become an internationally recognised home for genre film in Ireland. This year we are already seeing a rise in the number of Irish submissions compared to last year, and this trend can only mean good things for the medium in future years. When we started the festival we hoped that it would encourage Irish film makers to express themselves through the medium of science fiction, and we’re delighted to see that this is already happening.”
Now in its programming stage, the Festival is still accepting submissions via Film Freeway. 2018 promises to bring more new and classic Sci-Fi to the big screen, as well as more programmes of international short films to inspire and captivate.
