IMAX’s second screen in Ireland is opening in Blanchardstown this evening, with some big blockbuster films just over the horizon.
ODEON Blanchardstown will be join Cineworld on Parnell Street in hosting an IMAX screen. to come with reclining seats. The cinema screen, which is called ODEON Luxe, will come equipped with 310 reclining seats which will each come equipped with a hand table and promise more legroom and personal space. The current Screen 9 at ODEON Blanchardstown is set to be reopened as an IMAX screen this evening.
A special private screening of Top Gun will officially open the screen tonight, just in time for some big blockbusters that will be shown on the massive screen in the next few months. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is likely to be the first open to the general public later this month, with films soon to follow in 2018 like Marvel’s Black Panther and Pacific Rim: Uprising, both set for release next February.
Speaking back at the announcement last month, IMAX Europe’s MD Giovanni Dolci said:
“ODEON shares IMAX’s commitment to entertainment excellence and we look forward to combining the world’s most immersive cinema experience together with luxury seating to deliver a truly special offering to moviegoers in Blanchardstown.”
Ireland’s first IMAX screen was unveiled at the Sheridan Theatre in 1998, located where Cineworld now stands on Parnell Street. Though it closed just two years later, the cinema was considered ahead of its time and Ireland’s first IMAX there was the subject of a documentary by Robert O’Brien .
