October 31st will see the return of one of Dublin’s cinemas, as the Stella Theatre is set to reopen its doors very soon.
The Stella in Rathmines was once one of many cinemas based in the county that slowly but surely fell into disuse over the last century. First opening its doors in 1923, the cinema was a top destination for film-fans based southside until it closed a few years ago. Thanks to the efforts of Theatre Director Karl Geraghty and his team though, the Stella Theatre has been revamped and is almost ready to return.
The new and improved Stella will show both blockbusters and art house cinema on its screens after it reopens this Halloween. The luxury cinema will include couches and beds as well as a cocktail bar, so that a new generation can enjoy classics and the latest must-see movies in style. The cinema has been posting sneak preview pictures of their renovated venue in the last few weeks and we must say it’s looking pretty stunning.
As the theatre opens its doors to the public, they’ve announced that the very first film to be shown on October 31st will be decided following a public vote. They’ve narrowed down to a shortlist of nine films, a selection of popular films right through the history of Hollywood, a reflection of the nods to the past and return to glamorous glory days the cinema is hoping to achieve. The films on offer are Feris Bueller’s Day Off, Pulp Fiction, Casablanca, A Streetcar Named Desire, Cinema Paradiso, The Dark Knight Rises, Carrie, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Ireland’s own Intermission. The films can be voted for over at the Facebook page of The Stella Theatre, with the winning film set to be screened on the 31st. The Stella will also be pick one lucky person (at random) from those who vote to attend the opening night with three guests. A welcome addition to the ranks of Dublin’s cinemas, stay tuned for more from the Stella.
