The 80s taught us many valuable things. That knowing is half the battle. That, despite mass emigration and hardship, we were apparently living way beyond our means. And of course, that nobody puts Baby in a corner. Seriously, don’t even try. Patrick Swayze will be furious. And starting off August, you can see that for yourself as Happenings show Dirty Dancing for their latest Open Air Cinema.
Happenings are offering the chance to have the time of your life and celebrate the 30th anniversary of one of the most beloved dance films of all time. Along with 7Up, Happenings are bringing the rip-roaring, hip-rattling classic Dirty Dancing to Fitzwilliam Square this Bank Holiday weekend on Friday August 4th. They will be screening the film in Fitzwilliam Square, under the stars, with hot food and live entertainment to keep everybody happy before the movie begins.
They’re asking attendees to put on their dancing shoes for some entertainment, pack a picnic (don’t forget the watermelon) and cosy up in Fitzwilliam Square around 8.30pm to celebrate a true popcorn movie in style.
In 1963, Francis “Baby” Houseman (Jennifer Grey) is spending the summer at a resort in the Catskills Mountains with her family when suddenly her life takes a dramatic change. Crushing hard on the resort’s dance instructor Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze), she ends up having to fill as his dance partner and in no time, fall in love and have the time of their lives. Dirty Dancing ending up being an enormous hit, winning awards at the Oscars, Grammys and Golden Globes, making a star of Patrick Swayze and eventually leading to a stage version of the hit.
Tickets are available from Usheru now, so call your lover boy and get ready to dance the night away this Friday.
