Last month, we told you about the Dublin Sci-Fi Film Festival, the city’s newest film festival dedicated to the genres of fantasy and science fiction. The festival announced that they were accepting submissions from aspiring sci-fi filmmakers to screen their work, a process that is still open. Now further details, including dates and venues, have been announced for the Dublin Sci-Fi Film Festival.
Save the date! Dublin Sci-Fi Film Festival is Ireland’s newest genre-specific film showcase and will run from the 5th-7th May in 2017.
The festival is delighted to announce its venue partnerships with both the Light House Cinema and Generator Hostel in Smithfield. The latter will also serve as the festival hub for lunches, dinners and late night drinks and special events.
The 2017 programme will comprise screenings of new features, documentaries and short films, as well as classic science fiction and fantastic features from the vaults. From golden era 50s B-Movies and 70s psychedelic cult classics, to exciting new releases and overlooked gems, there is something here for everyone. The festival is also currently receiving submissions from Irish and international filmmakers that will be programmed along with the invited films.
The festival is founded by David Desmond, who has previously worked for Cork Film Festival as part of their programming and management team, as well as roles with Dublin International Film Festival as part of their management and catalogue editorial team:
“I am delighted to be working with two of my favourite venues in Dublin, the Light House Cinema and the Generator Hostel in Smithfield. The beautifully designed Light House is the perfect setting for our space-aged screenings, while the intimate cinema at Generator is the ideal spot for settling into a sci-fi marathon with your season pass. The festival could not run without the support of these partnerships and I am thrilled to be working with these two complimentary venues that will help build a hub of festival activity in Smithfield over the weekend.”
The festival also announced that it has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to help raise funds for the first Sci-Fi film festival in Dublin. Funders will be offered unique Festival items in exchange for their support, from limited poster prints to Festival passes and acknowledgement in the Festival programme. With these donations, DSFFF aims to include a greater number of screenings across the city, engaging with wider audiences in multiple venues, and will aims to provide access to filmmaking talent, workshops and events for years to come.
