The Dublin Sci-Fi Film Festival is taking submissions

Dublin’s latest film festival arrives later this year and it promises to “explore the outer limits of the imagination and bringing you close encounters of the celluloid kind.” The first Dublin Sci-Fi Film Festival has been announced and they’re taking submissions from filmmakers now. Aspiring creators of fantast and sci-fi should take note, as this new festival puts the call out for films to be sent to them.

Dublin Sci-Fi Film Festival is Ireland’s newest genre-specific film showcase. In its inaugural year the festival is planned to take place over a weekend in Dublin city centre and comprise screenings of new features, documentaries and short films, along with classic science fiction and old classics taken from the vaults.

The festival looks to cover the wide range of what cinematic science fiction has to offer, from golden era 50s B-Movies and 70s psychedelic cult classics, to sparkling new releases and overlooked gems, the festival aims to have something for every fan of sci-fi and fantasy too. The festival is also seeking submissions from Irish and international filmmakers that will be programmed alongside their curated list of invited films. 

The festival will also host a number of short film programmes. The festival is accepting submissions for this category now. Film submisions to the festival should belong to the genres of science fiction or fantasy and short film entries should be no longer than 35 minutes in length. The festival team who will be curating the programme have said that they are looking for strong concepts, originality and inventive storytelling among other qualities in the submissions that they receive.

The festival will announce its venue and dates for 2017 over the coming days and is now open for submissions. There are no submission fees for 2017.
