Well this doesn’t look all that promising…
Starring the ever lovable Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and the reasonably entertaining Zac Efron, this updated film version of the ‘classic’ hit TV Show Baywatch adds a distinctly comedic twist to proceedings. Understandably so – the original was an incredibly cheesy 90’s slice of weekly rescue action meets soap-opera melodrama. This new film is clearly aiming to capitalize on the success of another recent classic series adaptation, 21 Jump Street.
Perhaps even more so than Jump Street, Baywatch is a series that feels like the perfect candidate for receiving the send-up treatment.
The trailer below displays the kind of mocking tone you would expect, with many of the jokes aimed squarely at the ridiculousness of its original source material. Sounds good right? The problem is it still looks cheesy as hell, and it’s debatable how many of the jokes really land here. See for yourself in this debut trailer:
So what do you think? Is this everything you ever dream of seeing in a Baywatch movie? Do you enjoy the more comedic tone, or does it strike you as a bargain basement 21 Jump Street? Let us know in the comments below!
Baywatch will be released in Irish cinemas in May 2017
