This morning saw the release of the latest trailer for T2, which is not a rerelease of the action-packed Terminator sequel but rather the follow up to Trainspotting, Danny Boyle’s breakout saunter through the lives of Scottish drug addicts. Once again Ewan McGregor’s Renton is recommending that we “choose life”. Life however, has changed in the last twenty years.
References to choosing Facebook and revenge porn show that things aren’t the same for these characters as they were in 1996, but some things are still the same. The original cast, including Kelly MacDonald, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle have all returned, there’s still copious amounts of drug use, Begbie is still a bit unhinged and a grown man is still going by the name Spud. It’s difficult for films to go back to the well so many years later with much success, but with T2 being adapted from the original book’s writer Irvine Welsh’s own follow up Porno, it should have a better chance of succeeding than say, theĀ Dumb and Dumber sequel.
T2 will be released in Irish cinemas on January 27th 2017.
