2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Aliens, James Cameron’s follow up to Ridley Scott’s original and terrifying sci-fi horror Alien. A number of events are happening worldwide to mark the occasion, inlcuding a special screening of the film at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.
Having managed to survive the terrifyng onslaught of the xenomorph, Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) ends up frozen in stasis, drifting through space before being awoken fifty seven years later. Her story is treated with skepticism, the planet she visited having been long since colonised, but when all communication with the planet is lost, Ripley is teamed with a crew of space marines and sent in to investigate, forcing Ripley to confront her fears once again. One of the all-time great sequels, Aliens action-packed and unnerving visuals are a must-see on a big HD screen and this September, fans of the film will get the opportunity to do just that at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre. What’s more, they’ll be treated to a live performance of multi-award winning composer James Horner’s score for the film, courtesy of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
The RTÉ Concert Orchestra have a great track record of performing film scores live, having played in sync in the past with films such as Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. They’re sure to bring the house down performing Horner’s tense and atmospheric score and Dublin will get to see a fully orchestrated accompaniment to this HD screening before anywhere else in the world, with the September performances serving as a preview to the premiere at the Royal Albert Hall in London the following month.
The performances are to be held at 7.30 pm on both the 23rd and 24th of September. Ticket prices range from €15 up to €58.50 and the event is strictly for over 18s only.
