You may remember that earlier this year, DC released Batman: The Killing Joke with Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill returning to their roles as Batman and the Joker. The film was dark and disturbing, starting with the addition of a sexual relationship between Batgirl and Batman and culminating in Barbara Gordon’s torture by the Joker. Batman has been predominantly portrayed in this dark fashion since The Killing Joke graphic novel was released in 1988, sometimes to the detriment of the story. Why can’t Batman be for kids?
