Special Screenings for Lady Macbeth
Special Q&A screenings of Lady Macbeth will be held in Cinema Killarney on the 22nd of April and Light House Cinema Dublin on the 28th of April to mark the film’s Irish release. The only connection to the Shakespearean figure seems to be murder.
Lady Macbeth is a film adaptation of Nikolai Leskov novella Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk which tells the story of a young woman in rural England who is sold into marriage to an older man. She pursues a relationship with a man her own age while her husband is away. Tackling a Victorian thriller as a directorial debut is quite a risk, and if the trailer is anything to go by, Lady Macbeth seems to have combine a brooding tone, impressive costumes, sex and scandal (so everything we tend to want from a period piece). Director William Oldroyd’s theatre experience has likely served him well with this project.
Oscar nominated for the short film Head Over Heels, Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly who produced the film will be in attendance at the Cinema Killarney screening which will be held in association with the Kerry Film Festival. She will take part in a Q&A after the screening with the festival’s Artistic Director Maeve McGrath as moderator. Fodhla will also be taking part in the Q&A after the Light House Cinema screening with John Maguire from the Sunday Business Post moderating the discussion.
