Dub Web Fest returns for a 3rd year this November

Dub Web Fest, now in its 3rd year, serves as a celebration of the storytelling power of the Internet. Uniting digital media and tech worlds, the festival provides a platform for original web series and short form digital content, as TV and Film production professionals come together in Dublin to showcase the best of what they can do online. This year, the festival makes its way to Smithfield, as the first details from the 2017 edition begin to arrive.

Dub Web Fest, Ireland’s first and only web series festival, have announced a diverse and exciting schedule for its third edition which runs from 24th -26th November in a new venue The Generator in Dublin’s vibrant Smithfield district. Dub Web Fest  are delighted to announce that they are sponsored by Dublin City Council this year.


Their diverse programme of events brings together web series, short film, music videos and  virtual reality from all over the globe including South America, Australia,Japan,USA, France, Belgium and also the very best of home-grown Irish talent. The festival also hosts a number of media and film related workshops and panels.


This years Dub West Fest kicks off on Friday 24th November with its Opening Night drinks reception and music in the funky surroundings of the Generator Hostel followed by  World Premiere screenings of a selection of web series. Throughout the weekend there will be a number of screening blocks encompassing genres such a comedy, horror, sci fi ,drama and LGBT.

Highlights include:

  • “ Eighty Sixed” is a web series which gives an insightful look into millennials and their digital-era neuroses .It is written, directed and starring Cazzie David, daughter of Curb Your Enthusiasm’s  Larry David; it’s clear from her talent that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.


  • Throughout the festival film and tech enthusiasts can delight in a virtual reality experience by watching a selection of short films via their mobile phones using VR goggles.


  • Renowned Irish editor Tony Kearns is one of the industry workshop highlights this year. Tony has been editor for a number of Irish and international films including The Lodgers and Cardboard Gangsters, TV programmes such as Black Mirror and music videos for artists such as The Prodigy, Radiohead and The Chemical Brothers.


  • World Premiere Screening of “Stand Down” a silent short film starring Billy Bob Thornton set to a searing Rock n Roll song of the same name


Special guests will include actor/writer/director Phaldut Sharma, known for roles in The Office, Eastenders and Gavin &Stacey and films such as Gravity and Children of Men. Phaldut comes to Dublin to present the premiere screening of “I Gotta be Me”, a comedy/ documentary series about a present day Rat Pack  impersonator group, which takes a comic look at the entertainment industry.


The Closing Awards Ceremony will be held on Sunday 26th November, MC’d by Lisa Casey award-winning Irish comedian Lisa Casey , regular at Electric Picnic and the Laughter Lounge and described by David McSavage as “ so weird she makes me feel normal. Very Funny”


The official Dub Web Fest  programme will launch on November 9th at the Generator in Smithfield. This event will be invite only-  media and industry requests can be sent to emma@dublinwebfest.com
